Ombre Hair Color on Jessica Biel

Ombre Hair Dye Colors are Here to Stay

Ombre is definitely not new, but it’s still rules! It’s a super hot look that’s taken on a life of its own. In fact, it’s gone global, and it doesn’t look like this hair trend will be ending any time soon.

Just so that we’re all on the same page, let’s start by defining ombre hair. Ombre is a French word meaning to “shade.” I think one of the best visual descriptions I’ve heard of this look is, “ombre hair is like the sun kissed look of a child’s hair.” The roots are the darkest with the hue gradually lightening through the middle to the ends.

A skilled hair colorist can mimic this natural “sun kissed” effect using this technique. On the other hand, ombre can be bold by showing dramatic shade variations, and even rainbow colors. So you can wear soft, subtle highlights that peak through, or dramatic color with lots of contrast. There are various techniques used to achieve these fabulous effects.

Is ombre a DYI project?

You may be wondering if it’s possible to create ombre hair at home. The answer is . . . well, maybe. If you’ve used box hair colors successfully in the past and are pretty confident in your abilities, give it a go. But ombre is definitely a bit higher on the degree of difficulty scale.

Ombre

It takes a great deal of skill and creativity to successfully create this look. And it’s very possible that without that skill, you could seriously damage your hair, or end up with the unwanted effect of it looking like a botched hair color job. Color correction, or needing to cut your damaged hair off, is an expensive price to pay.

If you are currently coloring your hair, or you have gray to cover, a colorist can make any corrections needed. It’s less stress and just a better idea to rely on a professional hair colorist.

Who can wear it?

Ombre looks fantastic on long layered hair, or hair that is long enough to show the variations of colors. But, with the way this trend has been catching on, even ladies with mid-length hair are finding a way to rock the look! If you’re looking for a way to update your look, this will do it!
